The Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI) Visiting Fellowship Programme offers international researchers an opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary research and collaboration at the University of Edinburgh. Fellows will join a vibrant academic community focused on tackling global challenges and shaping innovative futures.
The applicant’s research should contribute to collaborative, data-driven, and interdisciplinary research innovation across the University of Edinburgh, within one of our six key research areas:
- Creative Industries & Digital Humanities
- Ethics of Data and Artificial Intelligence
- Financial Services & Fintech
- Future Infrastructure
- Public Sector: prevention, data civics, participatory democracy, governance
- Tourism & Festivals

Aim and Benefits of University of Edinburgh Fellowship
- £1,500 monthly bursary for 3–6 months.
- Reimbursement of travel and visa costs.
- Access to seminars, events, and training courses.
- Opportunities for collaboration with faculty, business partners, and third-sector organizations.
- Participation in guest lectures, teaching, and grant proposals.
Requirements for University of Edinburgh Fellowship Qualification
Applicants must:
- Hold an open-ended academic position at an institution.
- Have research aligned with EFI’s focus areas.
Special consideration will be given to candidates from Low or Middle-Income Countries and underrepresented groups.
